Announcing the arrival of...

When I was told that siblings can be completely different from each other, it was hard to believe they could be that different. Levi does what I always thought many babies do...eat, sleep and poop.  He is so peaceful and only "squeaks" when he needs something (ok...once and a while it is a loud squeal).  He is sleeping most of the time and can be put down anywhere and be content.  I know its quite early to tell, but if I have to guess, I think we may have a little independant one on our hands.  He has long and skinny features, unlike Isaac.  Isaac is adjusting better than expected, and after a week, he has begun to want to investigate this new little baby that doesn't seem to be going away.  He likes to give Mommy and Levi kisses goodbye when he is going off to the park or outside to play.  This is quite an improvement from the "NO!" when Mommy and Levi walked into the room together.  We are now a family of 4 and it's amazing!  God has blessed us and we are forever grateful!!!

Isaac - 18 months

Weight - 24 lb 10.5 oz (31th percentile)
Height - 31.5 in (22th percentile)
Head Circumference - 49.1 cm (82th percentile)

Things he loves:

• "Monkey" and Blanket
• Music
• Playing outside
• Rocks and sticks
• Coloring with crayons and stickers
• "Sesame Street," "Little Einstiens" and "Small Potatoes" 
• Reading books
• Playing at the park
• Helping Mommy (loves to unload dishwasher) or Daddy (loves to help with tools) around the house

Developmentally:

• Consistantly matches his foam letters to their missing shapes
• Has begun to recognize letters and their sounds, specifcally "O," "S" and "M"
• Follows directions very well
• Has begun to identify and/or match colors using his crayons including red, blue, green, yellow, orange and purple
• Understands lots of vocabulary but isn't speaking much of it. Uses basic vocabulary and lots of animals sounds, but not clear pronunciation of what he actually knows and no 2-word phrases yet
• Tests his limits and boundaries but quickly learns right from wrong (still retests us to see if mommy and daddy will be consistant)
• The canine teeth have officially started to poke through (ooooh...one more set at 2 years and then we can be done with this teething thing!!)
• Climbs around toys and furniture and goes up stairs well.  We are still cautious for going down stairs as we have hardwood floors and tile at the bottom. 
• Have begun some potty training as he is showing interest in trying
• Identifies many body parts and enjoys finding our "elbows"

Socially/Emotionally:

• Very loving - lots of hugs, kisses and cuddling
• Gives almost anyone a "High Five" or "Knuckles"
• Has his small group of adults he is comfortable letting him get close and play with
• Enjoys other kids around (even if he doesn't play directly with all of them)
• Does not like Mommy or Daddy holding other children (Yikes...baby brother is coming to join us any day now)

As our family is about to grow from 3 to 4, I can't help but think back to how Isaac has grown in the last year and a half.  Really, it's so much development in just a short period of time.  I truly am excited to see how he handles becoming a big brother and all the new memories and obstacles the next few months will bring our family.  I love that I have such a wonderful husband who works so hard just so I can stay home with our kids.  Isaac is so in love with his Daddy that is is evident when he shows his excitement when the truck pulls into the driveway or with the tears he sheds when Daddy has to leave.  We thank the Lord each day for Isaac and truly are blessed to have him in our lives!

Isaac - 17 months

Wow...we can almost say that Isaac is a year and a half.  Crazy!  At 17 months, Isaac still enjoys singing, dancing and being outside!  He loves to play "Pat A Cake" and "Ring around the Rosie."  He is my little helper around the house and gets very excited when it's time to help vacuum or unload the dishwasher.  He continues to teeth, and I can't wait until that whole process is over.  We are practicing with a baby doll for the arrival of "little brother."  He does not like us to give other children too much attention and definitely doesn't like us to hold other kids.  So, I'm praying that the arrival of baby #2 will go more smoothly than I have a feeling is going to happen.  He continues to be a very loving and affectionate little boy.  He does test his boundaries and knows when he goes beyond them by giving us a smirk and look that says, "Let's see Mommy and Daddy, what are you gonna do???"  With a brief timeout, he says "no, no" to whatever he did wrong, gives us a kiss and continues to go on to play with something else (usually).  I'm definitely enjoying my special one-on-one time with Isaac before our family grows to 4 in less than a month.

"No, No" quickly takes over as new favorite word

So now that "No" is part of Isaac's vocabulary, I can tell that he has understood Mommy for last last year and a half.  He now will go to everything I have ever told him not to touch and he waves his hand at the item and says, "No, No!"  And quite ironically, it sounds just like Mommy says it. 

Isaac - 16 months

I can't believe how much a little one can learn everyday.  It seems like Isaac is changing and growing up so fast!  He has found a new love for ice cream (thanks to Daddy), and yes, sugar makes him go a little crazy.  He has picked up singing to his favorite silly songs mimiking lots of different sounds.  He loves to sing and dance and enjoys to have music playing. His favorite letter is "O" and will point it out anywhere he sees it, particularly in the books we are reading.  When I ask where "Little Brother" is, he points to his belly, but I know he has no clue what is coming his way in a couple of months.  He still prefers to be outside, and we try to get to the park every nice day we have.  He loves to point to everything he knows in books, say animal sounds, point to body parts, and match shapes/letters.  I must admit, he's a pretty good student and listens to directions very well.  I'll enjoy it now, because I don't know how long it will last! :-)  He does love to test us and see what he can get away with.  Little "timeouts" seem to work most of the time, and he can always point at what he did wrong and is now starting to say "no-no" (the newest word in his vocabulary).  I'm glad to see that "yes" is still among his favorite words and uses it interchangably for "please" and "I want that."  Best of all, he loves to give hugs and kisses and they just make me smile every time.  He is very, very sweet!!!
